The Surrogacy Process in Miami

The surrogacy process in Miami typically involves several key steps:

Step 1. Matching

We take great care in matching surrogates with intended parents, assessing both parties’ lifestyles, personalities, values, and specific needs and preferences. We believe a harmonious match is a critical component of a rewarding surrogacy experience.

Step 2. Legal and Medical Procedures

After surrogates and intended parents have been matched, the legal and medical processes can begin. Medical processes will include all necessary screenings and evaluations to check for communicable diseases, hormone levels, and more.

During the legal process, the surrogate will review the surrogacy contract with her own attorney and suggest any changes they want to make. Once the contract is agreed upon and signed by all parties, the surrogate can begin taking specialized medications to help her body prepare for the embryo transfer. After this, a fertility doctor will transfer the embryo(s) to the surrogate’s uterus. After this quick, painless procedure, the surrogate can return home to rest for the remainder of the day.

Step 3. Pregnancy and Birth

About two weeks after the embryo transfer, the surrogate will take a pregnancy blood test. After eight weeks of pregnancy, the surrogate can begin weaning off fertility medications. After 10 weeks, the surrogate will stop seeing the fertility doctor and begin seeing an OB/GYN of her choice.

The surrogate will also choose the hospital in which to deliver the baby. The intended parents will typically be present during delivery, and the surrogate will have some time to hold the baby before the intended parents take their new child home with them.

Surrogacy in Miami FAQs

  • Surrogacy requirements in Miami are determined by the guidelines and protections set forth in Florida state law. To help ensure a fulfilling, healthy experience, GSHC maintains strict requirements for surrogates in Miami and throughout the United States. Some of our key requirements include:

    • Ages 21-38
    • Has one least one child of her own
    • Good health, with a BMI of 31 or less
    • No smoking or drug use
    • No more than five previous pregnancies
    • No more than three C-sections
    • Stable lifestyle and living situation
    • U.S. citizen with no felonies
    • No history of mental illness
    • Financially stable and not receiving government assistance
  • GSHC assesses various factors to successfully match intended parents with surrogates in Miami. Temperament and personality, lifestyle, values, and any unique preferences or needs will all be taken into account during our comprehensive screening process, as well as legal considerations and individual medical history. We’ll help facilitate introductions so intended parents and surrogates can get to know one another, discuss expectations, and forge a bond. If they feel happy with the match, legal contracts will be drafted.

  • The costs of surrogacy in Miami will vary depending on the individual situation. Medical expenses, agency fees, legal fees, and surrogate compensation — encompassing base pay as well as extra allowances and fees including monthly allowances, insurance premiums, and more — will also factor into the total cost. Overall price will be based on individual circumstances and arrangements made between intended parents and surrogates. All financial matters will be clearly outlined and discussed with ultimate transparency during the initial stages of the surrogacy process.

  • In Miami, the law permits both gestational surrogacy and traditional surrogacy. With gestational surrogacy, the surrogate has no genetic connection to the child. With traditional surrogacy, the surrogate uses her own eggs and is therefore genetically related to the child.

In Miami and throughout the state of Florida, traditional surrogacy laws are similar to adoption laws: The surrogate has legal parental rights over the child, so the intended parents enter into a pre-planned adoption agreement that is designed to terminate her parental rights. The surrogate, however, may revoke her consent at any point up until 48 hours after giving birth. If this occurs or if the court fails to approve the adoption agreement, the surrogate will have legal parental rights.

Gestational surrogacy laws in Florida, on the other hand, are straightforward. All gestational surrogacy contracts must stipulate that the surrogate will relinquish all legal rights to the child after giving birth.

  • Surrogate compensation in Miami is based on the specific legal agreement drawn up between the intended parents and the surrogate. Payments to the surrogates will be made in installments throughout the pregnancy to cover base pay as well as extra allowances for medical expenses, insurance premiums, prescription copays, and more.
