How does surrogacy work?

Surrogates become pregnant through the assistance of in vitro fertilization (IVF), a common process where an embryo is created outside of the body and then transferred into the uterus through a simple medical procedure. You will take medications during the IVF process to make sure your body is ready to accept and carry the embryo. Once the embryo “sticks” and the pregnancy is successful, you will carry and deliver the child just as you did during your previous pregnancy(ies). After delivery, your intended parents will be the legal parents of the child and you will have given them an incredible gift.

Who will I be helping?

Couples and singles who wish to start their family through surrogacy are called Intended Parents. They come from all over the world to find a miracle – a woman who will be able to carry their embryo and deliver a child for them. Many intended parents face health and fertility challenges that make it impossible for them to become parents on their own. They need your help to help them start their family.

"GSHC has became more than just an agency to me, they became family. They really are there to guide you in the process, and really match you with the right family. I got matched with an amazing family and couldn’t have asked for a better way to... start my first surrogacy journey with them."

From start to finish I was wonderfully taken care of! Dulce from the agency brought me flowers to my first appointment and made me feel so special! Dr. Wilcox was very knowledgeable and friendly to talk to. The whole team was on point and even... though they seemed to have a lot of appointments with patients, the appointments were quick and easy. The surgery was painless thanks to the wonderful staff. I would totally do it all over again. Thank you GSHC Update- I have completed two more cycles with GSHC and HRC fertility! I can not say enough good things. It’s such a blessing to be in this space with people who genuinely care about you and your wellbeing. I have felt so safe the entire time. They really care about what they do and the people they do it with. I’m grateful to be a part of it! If you’re scared to take the jump on egg donation I would say definitely do it. It really helps a family complete their dream and you also benefit so much from it. Warm wishes, Jade

"From the very beginning of my experience with this agency I always felt excited, supported, and important. I feel every member of the staff takes the time to genuinely get to know you and offer any support or answer any questions. I love that... members of the staff have also been surrogates, so they understand the emotions, questions, and process of becoming a surrogate. They make sure you find the perfect match for a memorable experience. I felt a great deal of compassion for my feelings and journey every step of the way!"

“GSHC, Jia and Yadira found us the best Surrogate we could even ask for. Not only they took care of us from making sure that our Surrogate was healthy and a genuine person to the sorting out all the expenses. They made sure that they gave their... full attention in our special experience. At first we planned to go without an agency but after deciding to go with GSHC we now know that this process requires a lot of work and experience. That is what Jia and her team provided us, so during the whole process we were actually able to enjoy every moment and experience our miracle 100%. Rather than scrounging around on how deal with legal, medical, etc. They held our hands every step of the way. Never dodged our calls even though we may have asked more than your average couple. Hahaha. Thank you for the best experience ever. Our family will forever be grateful for the blessing that you guys help us achieve!!! We hope that you guys continue to bless others like you have us and others before us. You guys as the BEST!!!”

  • The IVF process is generally not considered to be painful, but it can be uncomfortable for some women. The specific level of discomfort can vary from person to person, depending on factors such as individual pain tolerance, the specifics of the IVF protocol being used, and the number of times you have undergone the procedure. Our team of experienced surrogates have gone through the process (multiple times) and they can be a valuable resource to help you understand what to expect during the surrogacy process. Contact us today or you can learn more about the surrogacy process.

  • Yes, as a surrogate, you will need to take injections as part of the IVF process to prepare your body for embryo transfer and help support a healthy pregnancy. The exact medications and dosage will vary depending on the IVF protocol being used and the individual requirements of the intended parents. However, most surrogates will need to take a combination of hormones to prepare the uterine lining for embryo transfer and support a healthy pregnancy if an embryo is successfully implanted. You will have a designated case manager who has first-hand experience administering medications during surrogacy and she will be able to guide you through the process until you become an expert! Learn more about the surrogacy process.

  • As a surrogate, you will have a full team supporting you through the process. In addition to the love and support of your intended parents, you will have a designated case manager from GSHC Surrogacy & Egg Donation guiding you through every step of the journey from the time you are matched until after you deliver. Your case manager will be an experienced surrogate herself, and she can help provide valuable insights into her own experience to help guide you through your own. Additionally, our agency will arrange for you to attend monthly virtual psychological support sessions with a licensed mental health professional. We know the surrogacy process can be rewarding and also challenging, so we are dedicated to providing the highest level of support you may require during the process.

  • You will have your own designated attorney to represent you during the surrogacy match. You will not be responsible for paying the attorney directly. Your attorney will review your surrogacy agreement with you in detail to make sure you are comfortable and familiar with the protections provided in the agreement. Your attorney may also be involved in the parentage process toward the end of your journey to file paperwork declaring that the intended parents are legally responsible for the child.

  • Every intended parent is different but most prefer to be as involved in the pregnancy as possible, depending on your comfort level. Depending on the distance between where you and the intended parents live, the relationship may be entirely virtual (text messages, phone calls, video calls, etc.) or there may be opportunities to meet up in-person. Our agency will always be available to help you manage these interactions if needed. During the delivery, most intended parents wish to be present for the magical moment that their child is born. Depending on your comfort level and the hospital’s protocol, intended parents may be in the delivery room with you. Prior to every surrogacy match, our agency will always check with you to learn what you are comfortable with regarding the relationship with intended parents.
