How to Find a Surrogate in Oregon

Finding a surrogate in Oregon begins with the Matching Process, during which your GSHC case manager will help you review profiles of potential surrogates. While making your decision, it’s crucial to consider a myriad of factors, such as the surrogate’s personality, shared values, and your own personal preferences. Once a potential match is identified, a meeting can be arranged so that you and the potential surrogate can discuss your expectations and boundaries. This helps to facilitate a smooth transition for each step in the surrogacy journey, as well as an agreement built on mutual trust and understanding.

If you and the surrogate choose to be matched with one another, the next step is to draft surrogacy arrangement contracts, which outline the rights, responsibilities, and expectations of all parties involved. These integral documents must be drafted by an attorney specializing in reproductive law.

Using an Egg Donor and Surrogate in Oregon

Using an egg donor with surrogacy is not an uncommon practice for many intended parents and, while it adds a layer of legality to the process, is relatively easy to navigate in Oregon. The state has clear legislation that declares the intended parents as the legal and rightful parents of any child born through gamete donation and surrogacy.

In addition to being a leading national surrogacy agency, GSHC is also an egg donor agency. We have the resources, capabilities, and expertise to help intended parents navigate all aspects of egg donation and surrogacy across all of Oregon, including communities such as Portland, Eugene, Salem, and beyond. Surrogacy Laws in Oregon

Gestational surrogacy is legal in Oregon, with no prohibitive statutes or case law. Oregon courts grant pre-birth parentage orders, known as “judgments,” and both intended parents can be declared legal parents if one is genetically related to the child. This includes married and unmarried heterosexual couples, same-sex couples, and single parents using their own or donated genetic material.

If neither parent is genetically related, the outcome may vary by court, making it crucial to work with an experienced surrogacy attorney. However, the courts are generally favorable. In surrogacy arrangements using donor eggs and/or sperm, intended parents can rest assured knowing that the law absolves donors of any rights or obligations to the resulting child for married heterosexual couples or married women. However, It does not apply to single parents or two fathers, even if married.
